SETH GREENE
Today we're here to talk about my 16 year old son's invisible email automation bot.
Who I am: I've been interviewed on NBC and CBS, I've been quoted and written about in Forbes and Inc. Magazine. I've written nine best selling marketing books. I've been on the cover of Success Magazine. I'm the only person in history that legendary marketing guru Dan Kennedy has ever nominated for his prestigious market of the Year Award three years in a row, back to back to back and then the next year, they don't have the contest anymore, so maybe I broke it.
Let's talk about Max because he's the reason we are all here today. Max has been in the top five of his high school class by grade point average for the last two years in a row. He plays outside linebacker for the football team.
Max, tell our folks your story of how you got to the point where you can code something so awesome.
MAXWELL GREENE
I started with a Scholastic Book in elementary school. I got introduced to coding then. Ever since then I've been kind of off and on. I've always loved video games, so it's kind of sparked my interest. Ever since then, I've just loved learning to code. That brought me here.
SETH GREENE
I'm going to tell my version of that story. I think you've had kind of an evolution in the gaming world. The first console system I think that you're old enough to remember was the Nintendo Wii. You and I spent many, many, many, many hours when you were much younger, trying to beat Toy Story. Then your friends moved to the Xbox, where they could talk to each other on their headsets. So your mother said, “You got to get max an Xbox, so he can talk to his friends.” I think it was all downhill from there. Then after the Xbox, then your I think some of your friends had PCs. Then Max said, “I want a gaming PC.” I said, “We can look at how much one costs.” You did not want me to buy one from Dell. Why not?
MAXWELL GREENE
Because I wanted to build my own and make it how I wanted it.
SETH GREENE
Max said “I'm going to build a computer.” He "volun-told", his father to help him build a computer, he picked all the parts, I had no idea what we were doing. He picked it all. It took several days parts at a time of us assembling that computer.
I still remember the first second that we turned it on. There was a little display in the code indicator like 03, or whatever that meant it was actually starting to work. I was like “Max, it's alive.” We didn't break it. Most of the coding that I am aware of you have done on your gaming PC.
Let's talk about all of you reading this. What’s the problem that we're going to solve today?
Do you have an email list of customers or prospects? Are you sick of your email marketing not working well enough? The frustration is not getting a high enough open rate. Deliverability is hard. God help you, if your people have Gmail addresses, it's hard to get out of the promotions tab. Maybe you're tired of lousy open rates.
This is a screenshot from one of our MailChimp accounts. This is a list of 4808 high school guidance counselors. They opted in, they registered on our website and said, I want information about college financial aid. When we sent them an email about President Biden's college forgiveness bill, that was front page news, that day, we only got a 30% open rate. Which means 70% of the people who asked for information did not see our email.
This is an active campaign screenshot. This is a company that was a client of ours that was promoting a webinar. They emailed their list and said, Hey, this webinar is about this expert who has a financing option better than anything in our industry. Show up, learn about him and check this out. They got a 30.5% open rate and a 45 webinar registrations. 45 is really low. Wish you could get your message in front of more the right people?
This is one of our clients Mailchimp accounts. They sent out an email about a fundraiser they were doing to raise money for Ukraine, they got a pretty darn good email open rate 42.38%. If they got 50%, that means half of their list didn't see their message. Their click through rate is way too low.
Now the solution to this that I had been doing until Max solved it was this: if you could sit on your computer all day, do nothing else and send one email to one prospect or client at a time you could crush it. If you send an email from your email to their email, they will actually get it.
If you send an email using MailChimp, Constant Contact, Aweber, Active Campaign, Infusionsoft, Marketo, any of the email marketing software platforms out there you are using MailChimp server Constant Contact server. Notice when you get an email like that, it might say, MailChimp on behalf of Maxwell Greene.
The incoming email server or ISP like Gmail, Yahoo, recognizes that it's coming from a server for email automation, which is why you land in promotions automatically. Does that make sense? It isn't the only reason you land in spam or promotions, but it's one of them.
I have been solving this problem via manual labor sending one-off emails. I would send one email to one person at a time to invite them to a webinar. I would hit copy and paste 100 times. The body of the email would be the same and then copy and paste the subject line 100 times, and I would then copy from an Excel file and copy their email address and hit send.
I would manually invite people to webinars. Then when you registered for one of our webinars, I manually sent you an email to say remember to show up. You can set Zoom to send an auto email reminder a week before, the day before and an hour before the webinar. A lot of people don't see them or ignore them. Webinars show up rates historically have been really low. I would manually email people.
Guess what? I don't have to send it anymore. We would do an automated email that would go to all web when our attendees saying, “Hey, make sure you take advantage of the offer.” Our response rates were really low. I would send manual invites one at a time to everybody. Magically, our results went up. I would send emails every day to professionals like accountants and attorneys, to get them to be on our client's podcasts. I sent them to our lead magnet, go get a copy of my free report, go get my new book. I sent manual emails to leads who hadn't opened emails in a while. One at a time, I would export out the unengaged emails that people had in an open an email, and then send them a physical email, one at a time. In addition to the eight hours a day I would normally work. I was spending extra hours working at night at home. Max can vouch for the fact that his mother, my wonderful wife gets annoyed at me working too much at home, sending emails one at a time. She doesn't know this Max may have caught on to this because he's up later than my wife.
There have been times we would go upstairs and go to bed. We read and then we get in bed. She'd fall asleep and I go back downstairs and keep working. Max don't tell her about this part. I don't think she knows about that. It's a lot of manual labor, but it worked. Thankfully Max saw me doing all of these crazy emails and said, “Dad, what else can I automate in your business?” And I'm so proud that he thought to ask the question.
MAXWELL GREENE
You said, “An email bot.”
SETH GREENE
I didn't know if that was possible. I didn't know an email bot was a thing. I said, “I send these one at a time emails for hours to people. Can you come up with an email bot that would automate that?” What was your answer? “I think so.” He said, “Show me what you need it to do.” I showed him what I was doing. He said, “Okay, let me see if I can go code that.” That is what we're here to talk about, which is invisible email automation.
Let me show you what it does. Watch the video right next to this. Look at all those emails sent. Look, there's another email sent. Here's another email sent every 10 seconds. All day long. It sends an email from your Outlook a one-off email with no server identification because it's coming from your physical email inbox every single every 10 seconds. So if you look, I have sent out of my Outlook so far, I've sent 113,880 emails!
Even if server identification isn’t your problem, half our people or more still can’t see the messages.
How can this possibly be kosher, legal, whatever? I had to do some digging to find out as Max was coding the bot. Microsoft has very different rules about email than every other email platform. You can look this up; I can send you the link to where their terms of service are specifically about emails.
Microsoft rules for email are you can send up to 1000 emails a day to people you do not know. That means cold email strangers, that means you can use this legally to go buy a list. If you bought a list, you cannot then import that email list into MailChimp, Constant Contact Infusionsoft, AWeber, active campaign or anywhere else because they will say where did you get the list? Did they opt in? No, I bought it. Sorry, we don't do that. This does that. Microsoft rules are you can send 1000 emails a day to people you don't know.
Once you've emailed them once, you can then send 5000 emails a day. So this bot, again, it's not going to send 20,000 emails a day, the max you can send is 5000. At 10 seconds per email, it's going to take you about 12 hours to get through 5000 emails. Think about what time you start the bot and let it run.
One of the things you may or may not be aware of is if you're using Infusionsoft, AWeber, Constant Contact, Active Campaign, you're supposed to be doing something called Email hygiene.
Email hygiene means you're supposed to every 30 to 90 days, send a reengagement campaign to people who haven't opened an email.
If they still don't open, you're supposed to delete them from your list.
That means every 30 to 90 days, you're supposed to be getting rid of your leads, because they haven't opened your email and that's affecting your server's sender reputation.
In my case, I went to Infusionsoft. I got a list of everybody who hasn't opened an email in 90 days.
I exported out an Excel file. I put it into the bot. I emailed them one off directly and magically over half of them replied. It was 1000s.
All of a sudden, my unengaged list is now active again, because they haven't been seeing my emails, maybe they landed in promotions, maybe they landed in spam.
Maybe they're not seeing them because they haven't opened one in a while. Now because I send a direct email, all of a sudden, they're active again, and more of my emails now start getting through.
I have used this to drive leads. Let's say you have a prospect list, or you bought a list (either way), you can email them using the bot and drive them to a lead magnet.
It increases your webinar show up rate.
We did two webinars where we coincidentally had the exact number of same people register. That was with an affiliate partner, they drove the people.
We had one webinar 814 people registered, 244 showed up. That's a show up rate of 30%. That's normal. Webinars show up rates used to be a lot higher, but then everybody got used to zoom got webinars saturated, and our show up rate was 30%.
I took the next webinar where we had 814 different people registered, and I use the email bot to remind them to show up.
We went from 244 People live to 450 for a show up rate of 55%, which is an increase of 85.9%!!!
We didn't send multiple steps. I haven't tested that yet. We sent one reminder email with the email bot to get them to show up.
You can use this to book guests for your podcast.
In the last two weeks, we booked 40 podcasts by scraping a cold email list of your ideal professionals and then emailing them with the bot.
I literally got about 10 or more this morning in an hour for a client by sending an email to a scraped list.
You will get the program, and you will get all program updates for life. What that means is every time we get an iteration, and Max updates the bot, you get the new version.
MAXWELL GREENE: Normally, when something goes wrong, or some error occurs with like the file or something, nothing happens.
You don't know what went wrong.
What I did was I made it so that when something goes wrong, it shows what exactly happened.
You can just send that into me or my dad, and I can fix it way easier.
Max said “I'll just code a new version of the bot that troubleshoots itself. Then you can just text me a picture of the error code, and I can tell you what you are doing wrong and how to fix it."
You will get all program updates for life; you will get tech support from Max or myself.
The bot only works with Microsoft Outlook. You need a PC, not a Mac.
You have to download the bot. It's an exe file, which means you can't do it on a Chromebook.
One of our bot testers accidentally didn't get the message that it was outlook only and ran it through his Gmail.
Gmail has rules that it can only send 500 emails a day; he tried to send 1000 and he got his Gmail account shut down.
As of right now, it only works with Microsoft Outlook because Outlook has looser rules about how many emails you can send in Outlook.
If Outlook changes the rules, we will update the bot to stay compliant.
It depends on your compliance department. If it's over nine people, do you have to then get it approved?
Theoretically, it's not doing anything different than you would do. It's not a separate email server.
Think of it as it's copying and pasting the email every 10 seconds.
As an advisor, do you need to get that one email approved? If you're going to send it to more than nine people, you probably need the body of the email approved. I can't speak to the software program itself.
It's not using a browser; it's not a cloud-based application. It is a physical file you will install on your desktop or your laptop or PC.
If you have never sent this list emails from your Outlook email, you can send 1000 a day.
To be safe, we send 990.
Once you have sent them an email from your Outlook, you can then send up to 5000 a day.
If you are buying a cold list, you can send 1000 a day; five days later, when all 5000 people have gotten your email, you can then send 5000 at a time to those 5000 people.
Absolutely. You get to specify when you use the bot; it asks you what Excel file you are pulling the email addresses from.
Yes, there is now a field in the bot that pulls the person's first name from the Excel sheet.
This isn't an investment pitch. It's a software program you're buying through us that Max invented.
We can certainly have a conversation about that.
Silver is the bot and tech support and unlimited updates for life. That segues into the question that some of you already asked.
So our gold level of the bot is we will scrape you a list of up to 5000 leads per month.
We'll get you a new list of 5000 people to email with the bot every single month, and that includes our cost for the list scraping.
Our Platinum level is we will write you a three-step email sequence every single month to send to these leads.
Silver is the bot and tech support.
Gold is the bot, tech support, and 5000 new leads every month.
Platinum is the bot, tech support, 5000 leads every month, and a three-step email sequence every month.
Pick silver, gold, or platinum. You fill out the order form and you will literally get to download the bot right away.
Now the bot is not complicated, you only need to fill out a couple of fields.
This is all text email, we're not sending HTML, it's just text.
Just text will get through and get delivered way better than a pretty email will.
This is literally what it looks like.
This is the window that opens up.
Yes, you can put any link in the body of the email you want. I've driven zoom links driving people to webinars, I've driven them to a landing page.
I've driven them to a website. I've driven them to my LinkedIn profile to get followers.
I've driven them to go watch a to register for a webinar on a different platform besides zoom, you can put whatever link you want.
Yes. Max created training videos; when you buy the bot, you'll create an account to log into the membership site where you go download the bot and where you watch the tutorial videos.
They're short, because it's not that tricky.
Once you use it the first time and you see it work it's easy, from then on.
It's just getting the first time figuring out what goes in each field. Once you do that, once you're golden.
Yes. So you're going to leave it open all day, or however long it takes to send your emails.
That's a question for Max.
MAXWELL GREENE: It shouldn't take up too much. If anything, it would probably take up a little bit more Wi-Fi than actual PC resources.
SETH GREENE: I have it on a laptop and I run the bot most days on the laptop all day.
I have also run and done work at the same time on other programs and I haven't had any issues.
Yes, there is a little pop-up that Max created that says your emails have all been sent.
MAXWELL GREENE: I've never rebooted a computer while using it. We'd have to test that.
MAXWELL GREENE: If the screen shuts off, there shouldn't be any issue. It keeps running.
You can only use it on one computer. You could buy more than one license; then you could have two versions of the bot.
You would ideally put the bot on the computer that the emails are going to get sent from.
You have to send 1000 a day for 10 days, and then you can send that 5000 a day on an alternating basis every other day.
Yes, you can even use your email. It doesn't stop you from using Outlook. It's just going to send emails every 10 seconds.
The first version of the bot that Max made sent all of the emails at once. It's 1000 in 20 seconds, and we didn't get a good response rate.
Maybe it's because Microsoft doesn't think we're sending emails like a person.
I said Max, “Give me a 10-second delay between emails,” and it blew the doors off the response rate, and we've kept it at that.
The email list categories that are included at the Gold level are anything that we can find on LinkedIn.
If they are a business person or professional, if they're a category that would be on LinkedIn, that's what's included in the gold. If it's like a consumer list or they're not on LinkedIn, that would cost extra because we'd have to go buy it for you.
We can scrape from LinkedIn, anything up to 2500 a day.
Yes, I'm using it right now to sell one of our services for $72,000 a year. Yes, it works selling high ticket.
It's taking all of the work off of your plate of sending 1000 emails a day or 5000 emails a day.
Yes.
You can start with silver to get the bot and then go use it to go through your existing email list and your existing prospect list.
Then when you've gone through them all, and it's working all fine and you want more people to target, you could upgrade to gold and get a list every month, you could upgrade to platinum and have us write the emails for you.
If you wanted to be cautious and protective? Yes, you could go grab a new email domain just for this so that that way, if they lost it, for some reason, it doesn't hurt anything else.
If you want to be protective and paranoid, productively paranoid, go grab another domain and set up a new email address just for this.
That's up to you. You tell us who you want, and we'll go scrape.
You can filter by company.
You could be a financial advisor and want rollovers from a company because they're doing layoffs, we could get you every employee from that company.
There's hundreds of categories on LinkedIn.
Human Resources, government, mental health care, real estate, professional training, chiropractors, optometrists, semiconductor manufacturing, financial planning, family planning, medical practice.
You can go by job title, you can go by groups.
If there's a group in your industry that you want to go after, you can we can scrape them all for you.
One of my favorite things is scraping groups.
I'll go to financial advisor I'll type in groups.
Look at this - financial advisor magazine 91,000 members, and I'm going to go click on the members show all there's 90,000 members.
The gold level, we will scrape 5000 people for you a month.
If they put their phone number as public in their LinkedIn account, then yes, I can scrape their phone number.
Max? When did the bot go live? When did you give me the first version?
MAXWELL GREENE: It was late in May 2023 when I gave it to you.
SETH GREENE: Maybe two months.
It is my new favorite thing.
Every morning first thing I do in the morning is start the bot and let it run all day.
My wife now says why are you so bot obsessed? Because it freakin works.
